A caregiver for the Kurklis family

So after I got the news that my mom had been in the hospital, I soon came back to my hometown of Atlanta. This is not something I was expecting, but I am very honored to serve my family.

In the middle of September, my mother fell and hit her head and then had a subdural hematoma, which then led to some damage to her brain. Right now she is not able to move her left arm or left leg very well and she has some cognitive dysfunction, but it’s yet to be seen how much she will recover from that but she’s still somewhat there.

Before going into the hospital, my mother has been taking care of my stepfather who has quite a few ailments among those needing to wear oxygen most of the day to keep his oxygen levels high enough and take medication.

There are so much that I can do to help them and I know it’s really good for me to be here now. I’m taking my stepfather to the hospital to see my mother. I’m helping him to remember to take his medication. I save him some trips up and down the stairs each day because he can be prone to fall. And he never took care of the financial stuff so I’m helping him to understand that too.

This was unexpected, but I’m fortunate enough to be in a financial position where I can help them and also continue to run my business. I certainly hope that if I need help in the future, maybe someone will be able to help me also. I know that time things will change and perhaps I’ll have a little more freedom to do what I want to do, but this is what I want to do right now. I want to help my family. I was born a Duval but my mother remarried a Kurklis so I called this Post the caregiver for the Kurklis family. 🙂

And for now I’m calling my home, Buford, Georgia. it’s a change from California. And I’m sure more changes will come in the future. I look forward to traveling again.
